Čekárna Olomouc and the Community Cinema Phenomenon
Before Christmas 2025, a new community arthouse cinema phenomenon was born in Olomouc. At the derelict Olomouc město railway station, a new mini-cinema called Čekárna Olomouc was established, also serving as a cultural and community space. What form and role did community cinemas have in the past and what role do they play today? Where in Bohemia and Moravia can we find similar types of cinemas? Is it easy to open such a cinema and cultural space in Czech conditions? The founder of Čekárna Olomouc, Pavel Bednařík, will talk about all this.
