Martin Čihák

A former MK competitor and long-standing jury member. He studied at MFF UK and FAMU (editing department). He taught mathematics and art history at the Evangelická akademie. From 1996 he pursued postgraduate studies in film studies at FF UK, where he later lectured; between 2002 and 2007 he served as vice-dean for educational, artistic and research activities at FAMU. He currently teaches at FAMU's editing department.

From 1982 he made S8 films and won prizes at amateur festivals. From 1985 he began working with 16 mm and spent several years making documentaries. Between 1991 and 1994, together with Jan Daňhel, he shot the seminal experimental trilogy Neustadt – Naše Zahrádka – Adam Kadmon. In the mid-1990s he developed demanding techniques of manual optical printing, using large-format negatives, photograms and other photographic sources that he transferred to film stock in various ways. As a cinematographer and editor he collaborated on films by Alice Růžičková.

He published the book Ponorná řeka kinematografie (2013), devoted to the editing methods of film avant-gardes.
