My first time at Mladá kamera was in 2018, when I accepted an open invitation to become its host. Since then, I've hosted the main ceremony four more times and gradually got more deeply involved in the organizing team, particularly as a member of the programming team that curates the competition films.
Once, just before turning thirty, I submitted my older independent documentary Hříšný kanec (Sinful Boar) to the festival, which didn't make the shortlist.
Mladá kamera gives me a warm feeling — knowing that most of the organizers do it out of genuine interest and love for emerging cinema. I also cherish the discussions where filmmakers and professionals talk with enthusiasts, students, and amateurs as equals, and where something entirely new is created through words — something that later transforms into FAMU and KDFS graduates and laurel-bearing filmmakers whose accolades we'll see displayed in film trailers on FilmFreeway.
